01What is Oakland Through 30 Eyes?
The Oakland Through 30 Eyes Project is an initiative to bring together an image of Oakland lived by 15 youths through the lens of a camera. Through this initiative, What Now America (WNA) will distribute 15 digital cameras between 15 youths selected through an application process.
02How do I apply?
You will submit, through the organization you attend, a short application available on WNA website (link below).
03What information do I need to apply?
Through this application, you will present a story about Oakland that you would like to portray through pictures along with other necessary information, such as your contact information and the organization you are applying through.
04How are applications reviewed?
The applications will be reviewed by a board consisting of local residents, non-profit agency representatives and professional photographers.
05Will I be able to keep the digital camera?
After the completion of the project, considering you have fulfiled all the application requirements, you will be able to keep the digital camera.
06What are the requirements?
- Reside in the city of Oakland.
- Be in the age range of 13-18.
- Participate and apply through any youth program in Oakland.
- Have a story-line regarding Oakland that you would like to portray through pictures.
- Attend the orientation day on September 12, 2009.
- Attend the first check-in day on September 20, 2009.
- Attend the second check-in day on September 26, 2009.
- Attend the third/final check-in day on October 3, 2009.
07Will I be able to receive any guidance during this project?
Yes, the check-in dates indicated above are meant to provide the guidance and direction you would need to complete this project successfully.
08Will my images be shown in a gallery?
Yes! On October 10, all images produced through the "30 eyes" will be put on show at a local gallery (TBD), open to public and free of charge.
