The first annual Parent’s Day with What Now America was a smashing success, a sure sign of the progress the organization has made after just 11 months. The turnout was fantastic, demonstrating the support of the youth's family members, who showed a lot of interest in the program and pride in their children’s accomplishments. While partaking in delicious food, families learned about their children's involvement in the organization and participated in some of the regular program activities. In a poster presentation, the kids shared their favorite parts of WNA, including making new friends, shopping days, and educational activities, such as computer lab and science experiments. Highlighting the day’s positive message, one participant said that he liked “the person he became after joining the program”.
The program staff introduced themselves to the families, sharing their involvement with the organization and their motivation behind working with WNA. Sharing an important part of a typical day at WNA, the youth began with a group stretching activity, then broke into smaller groups to play sports; and as always, everyone displayed the enthusiasm and positive attitude that makes WNA a great resource for youth and families. Parents showed a lot of interest in the upcoming boys and girls backpacking trips in cooperation with Big City Mountaineering, which promises to be an enriching bonding experience and a rewarding activity for all involved. The day ended with appreciations of all of the people that helped with the program, and many of the youth thanked their families for attending. ![]() |
